Imperial Cities
Four cities were capitals of ancient dynasties of Morocco:
- Fez - founded by Sultan Idis I in 789.
- Marrakech - founded by Sultan Yusuf ben Almnavida Tasufin in 1062.
- Rabat (current capital of Morocco) - founded by Sultan Abd al Mu'min in 1150.
- Meknes - founded by Sultan Moulay Ismaiel in 1672.
